Role & Requirements Are you self motivated and customer focused? If you join us as a member of our station platform staff you will be the face of First ScotRail at one of our stations, ensuring a warm greeting and supplying a higher than expected level of information. Working closely with our customers you will provide a feeling of safety, security and well-being. In this position you will provide assistance to customers as they are joining and leaving trains as well as looking out for our special needs customers. Your main priority at all times is safety. You will be responsible for making sure that trains leave the station safely and punctually, being aware of your surroundings at all times. When carrying out train dispatch duties you must check the traffic signals and communicate carefully with our train drivers and train conductors that it is safe for the train to pull away. You may also be responsible for maintenance and presentation of the station environment including cleaning and carrying out health and safety checks. You must therefore use your observations skills to ensure that all areas of that station are safe and hazard free. If you believe you can contribute to our customers choosing to travel with us, we would like to hear from you. We are looking for evidence of a track record in delivering high levels of customer service and how you have used your excellent communication skills in previous roles. You must be able to demonstrate previous front line customer service experience involving customer assistance, health, safety and security. You must have strong customer focus and be an enthusiastic and friendly person with excellent listening, communication and problem solving skills. It is important that you work well within a team and also be able to demonstrate individual initiative when required. Medical Fitness Due to the nature of the post and rail industry safety requirements there are certain medical & fitness standards that you would require to meet. If you are in doubt or have any condition(s) that may affect this please refer to the attached information sheet or if necessary refer to your doctor for advice. Hours of work An average working week is 35 hours. Shift and weekend working will be involved. Edinburgh - earliest start 0545 latest book off 2345 Aberdeen - earliest start 0515 latest book off 0015 Glasgow - earliest start 0600 latest book off 0045 night shift required approximately every 11 weeks - for one week - approx midnight to 0700 Inverness - earliest start 0420 latest book off 0100 1 in 2 Sundays with earliest start 0700 latest book off 0030 night shift every 8 or 9 weeks Monday to Friday basis Reference Salary & Benefits £17,053 per annum on completion of all training. £12,560 per annum during training. Benefits include free and reduced rate rail travel, full uniform and membership of a contributory pension scheme. Training All new entrants initially attend the 5 day company induction programme including first aid and fire safety training. Further safety training will be provided as well as training on the job to ensure that you achieve the relevant skills to be able to carry out this job safely and effectively. All training will be provided and will continue until you have satisfactory final assessment by your team manager.
