About Penumbra

Penumbra is a leading voluntary organization established in 1985 when it opened Scotland's first registered supported accommodation for people with mental health problems. We provide a range of innovative mental health projects throughout Scotland supporting approximately 1000 people per year.

In addition, we provide residential respite care in both Edinburgh and Aberdeen, for people with mental health problems and their carers. We also have an innovative support project for Young People in the Scottish Borders and Fife.

Working with us

Penumbra has a number of different projects across Scotland, from as far apart as the Borders to the Western Isles. These can offer a variety of opportunities for working with us, either as an employee or as a volunteer. Although the majority of our vacancies are for Support Workers, we also employ a diverse range of people in our Edinburgh Head Office within Administration, Human Resources, and Training to Finance and Fundraising. Support Workers provide service users with support both in their own homes and Penumbra supported accommodation.

Penumbra now employ’s over 300 members of staff, nationwide. We can offer different ways of working - full time, part time and relief work in different types of settings.
